THE OFFICIAL CONSITUTION OF THE FOUR SPORT ELITE DYNASTY LEAGUE
ARTICLE 1: FANTASY SPORTS
A “Fantasy Sport League” is a group of people who all fake-draft and fake-manage a group of players from a real sport and use these players' acquired stats as a basis for competition against one another. Fantasy Sport Leagues try to mimic the real sport as much as possible to give the participants the thrill of what it would be like to actually manage a real sportsteam.
Some Fantasy Sport Leagues are “Dynasty Style” - these leagues are set up so that each participant is allowed to “keep” keep all players for the following season. Therefore, the same participants compete against each other every season, which also raises the enjoyment level.
ARTICLE 2: THE EDL
The Elite 4 Sport Keeper (EDL) is an association of four (4) Dynasty Style Fantasy Sport Leagues, all of which focus on a different sport as a basis for fantasy competition. These sports are MLB Baseball, NFL Football, NHL Hockey and NBA Basketball. Thus, the leagues are appropriately named: "The MLB League", "The NFL League", "The NHL League", and "The NBA League".
All official EDL competition is hosted by Yahoo Fantasy Sports with the use of their Free Fantasy Sport Leagues, which are known by the EDL as "Yahoo Leagues".
ARTICLE 3: SCHEDULE
The EDL officially begins in October 2008 with the first season of the NBA League and has no end in sight. Each official “EDL Year” begins on Opening Day in the NBA and ends on the final day of the NHL Regular Season - this takes approximately thirteen (13) months and encompasses one (1) “Playing Season” (see below) in each league.
Each individual league also runs on its own repeating schedule that consists of two (2) stages: the "Playing Season" and the "Off Season". For the MLB and NBA Leagues, the Playing Season consists of the entire official MLB and NBA Regular Seasons, respectively. For the NFL League, the Playing Season consists of Weeks 1-16 of the official NFL Regular Season. For all leagues, the Off Season consists of any time that the Playing Season is not going on.
ARTICLE 4: GENERAL MANAGERS
At all times, the EDL must contain exactly twelve (12) participants, known as "General Managers" or "GMs". All GMs are required to have at least One (1) of the following Yim, Aim, Gtalk, Msn and an email address.
ARTICLE 5: COMMISSIONER
At all times, there must be one (1) GM who also has the role of "Commissioner". The main duties of the Commissioner are to govern the league, facilitate all league aspects, resolve disputes, and enforce the Constitution.
The Commissioner serves a life-long term.
"Assistant Commissioners" may exist, but only at the Commissioner's discretion.
ARTICLE 6: GOVERNANCE
Although the EDL is governed solely by the Commissioner, GMs may request rule changes, procedural changes, constitutional amendments, GM expulsion, and any other changes. The Commissioner has the authority to approve or deny these requests, but may occasionally call on the GMs to vote on some of these issues. All requests, league voting, and any other league discussion or questions should take place in the General section of the EDL Website.
ARTICLE 7: FRANCHISES
The term "Franchise" simply refers to all of the resources that GMs have available to them at all times. These resources include an “Active Roster”, and Draft pics (2nd Year Only).
All GMs own (1) Franchise in each of the four (4) leagues. Upon joining the EDL, GMs must give a name to each of their franchises (they do not have to all be the same). To avoid confusion, GMs may not change their franchise names once they have officially chosen them.
ARTICLE 8: PLAYER CLASSIFICATION
For all Four (4) leagues, “Official Players” are defined as players who are listed in Yahoo’s Player Database. “Unofficial Players” are all players who are not listed in Yahoo’s Player Database.
ARTICLE 9: ACTIVE ROSTERS
Active Rosters are the actual team of players that GMs use to directly compete with each other on the Yahoo League. Only Official Players are eligible to be on Active Rosters.
During the Off Season, GMs may have an unlimited amount of players on their Active Roster. But during the Playing Season, GMs will be limited to a twenty-five (30) player maximum in the MLB League and a twenty (20) player maximum in the NFL, NHL and NBA Leagues.
ARTICLE 10: INJURED PLAYERS/DISABLED LIST
During the Playing Season in the MLB League, GMs have access to a Disabled List (DL) that may only contain players who are actually on the Disabled List of a real MLB team, as determined by Yahoo. GMs are allowed a maximum of three (3) spots on the Disabled List. Although the Disabled List is considered part of the Active Roster, players on the Disabled List do not count toward the twenty-five (25) player limit. GMs are able to move baseball players to and from their Disabled List directly on the Yahoo league.
In the NFL will be allowed 2 Injured Reserve Spots.
The NBA Has no such spots for dealing with injuries.
ARTICLE 12: INAUGURAL DRAFTS
The very first draft in each league is known as the “Inaugural Draft". Each Inaugural Draft is held offline via the league board. The snake style draft orders are randomly decided using the Random Draft Order Generator on league page. During these drafts, GMs are only allowed to select Official Players.
The MLB League Inaugural Draft is twenty-five (25) rounds long and the NFL, NHL and NBA League Inaugural Drafts are twenty (20) rounds long.
ARTICLE 14: Dynasty
After each season, GMs are allowed to Keep all of their players.
Gm's may drop and add players in the offseason via the league boards.
ARTICLE 15: DRAFT PREP PERIOD
There is a five (5) day “Draft Prep Period”. During this period, all Dynasty's are placed on everyone’s Yahoo League Team, the draft order is announced, and no trades may be made. GMs are able to view all Official Players who are in the draft pool by clicking “players” directly on the Yahoo League.
ARTICLE 16: FREE AGENT DRAFTS
All drafts after the Inaugural Drafts are known as "Free Agent Drafts" and will be held offline via league boards. Draft Picks for Free Agent Drafts are originally distributed based on the previous year's results in the “ traditional“ format. Pick# 1-12 then 1-12 again etc.
MLB League Free Agent Drafts are five (5) rounds long and GMs are allowed to select any unowned player in the world.
NFL, NHL and NBA League Free Agent drafts are five (5) rounds long and GMs are allowed to select any Official Player.
ARTICLE 19: ACTIVE ROSTER TRANSACTIONS
During the Playing Season, GMs are allowed to make unlimited Active Roster Transactions. There are two (2) types of Active Roster Transactions: "Adds" and "Drops".
In all leagues, GMs may "add" any unowned Official Player to their Active Roster.
GMs may drop anyone they want from their Active Roster (No Cant Cut List).
ARTICLE 20: EXECUTING TRANSACTIONS
Active Roster Transactions can all be executed via the Yahoo League.
ARTICLE 21: WAIVERS
When a player is dropped from an Active Roster, the player goes on “Waivers” for the remainder of the day, plus the entire following day. Anytime an unowned player gets added to Yahoo’s Database, the player goes on Waivers for the same amount of time.
During a "Waiver Period", GMs may submit “Waiver Requests” via the Yahoo League. Yahoo will reward each Waiver Request to the GM with the highest spot on the "Waiver Order”. After a GM is rewarded a Waiver Request, he or she is moved to the back of the Waiver Order. If no Waiver Requests are submitted for a player during his Waiver Period, then the player becomes a Free Agent.
The Waiver Order is initially set based on the reverse Inaugural Draft order. Then at the beginning of each Playing Season, the Waiver Order is reset based on the previous season's results.
ARTICLE 22: TRADING
GMs are allowed to trade all resources available to them, which include Active Roster Players.
There are no guidelines/rules regarding structure of trades - GMs can formulate trades however they would like with as many GMs involved as they would like. However, no "Inter-League Trading" is allowed.
For each league, trades are allowed year around except during the "No-Trade Period", which is the seven (7) day time period which begins five (5) days before the draft and ends two (2) days after the draft. Note that this time period includes the draft itself.
When two or more GMs come to a trade agreement, they must post the trade via yahoo or league board.
When trades are posted, the Commissioner reviews them as soon as possible. The Commissioner shall not judge the "fairness" of trades (as this is a common mistake in fantasy sports), but instead judge on the basis of whether or not trades could possibly benefit all GMs involved. Most of the time, the Commissioner passes trades right away. But, when the Commissioner simply cannot figure out how trades could possibly benefit all GMs involved, then the Commissioner "Challenges" them. When trades are challenged, they are put on hold onto the GMs involved voice their explanations to the Commissioner. After all explanations have been considered and analyzed, the Commissioner either passes or vetoes them.
When trades are passed, the Commissioner makes the necessary changes to the Yahoo League and/or Website.
When the Commissioner is involved in a trade, GMs (including the Commissioner and the other GM(s) involved) vote on it. If no GMs vote to veto a Commissioner trade within 24 hours, then the trade is passed. If at least one GM votes to veto a Commissioner trade, then the trade will stay pending for an extra 24 hours, making a total of 48 hours. At least six (6) of the GMs must vote to veto a Commissioner trade for it to be vetoed. If five (5) or less vote to veto, then the trade is passed.
Even though trades can be proposed and done on yahoo league page, they will be done via league board.
